How to use the time zone converter

  1. Add cities. Type a city, a country’s capital, an abbreviation like PST, CET or IST, or a zone name like Europe/Paris. Your own time zone is added automatically.
  2. Pick a date and time for the first city (the base city), or press “Now” to follow the current time. Click ★ on any row to make it the base.
  3. Read the timeline. Every row is that city’s 24 hours, lined up under the base city’s hours. Click an hour to select it.
  4. Share or print. “Copy share link” puts the cities, date and time in a link. Whoever opens it sees the same moment, with their own local time.

Why time differences change during the year

Countries that use daylight saving time do not all change on the same day. The US changes on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November (NIST: Daylight Saving Time Rules), while Europe changes on the last Sundays of March and October (EU Directive 2000/84/EC). For about three weeks in spring and one week in autumn, the gap between New York and London is 4 hours instead of 5. In 2026 that happens from March 8 to March 29 and from October 25 to November 1. Southern-hemisphere places such as Sydney and Auckland change in the opposite direction, so a gap can change by two hours across the year. The converter always uses the offsets for the date you choose.

Time zone abbreviations

Abbreviations are handy but ambiguous: CST is Central Standard Time in the US but also China Standard Time, and IST can mean India, Ireland or Israel. That is why the converter works with cities and IANA zone names (like America/Chicago) and only uses abbreviations as search shortcuts. US abbreviations: EST/EDT (Eastern), CST/CDT (Central), MST/MDT (Mountain), PST/PDT (Pacific), AKST/AKDT (Alaska), HST (Hawaii).

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert time between time zones?

Find each place’s current offset from UTC, then take the difference. New York is UTC−4 in summer and Stockholm is UTC+2, so Stockholm is 6 hours ahead: 9:00 a.m. in New York is 3:00 p.m. in Stockholm. The converter does this for you, including daylight saving time on the date you pick.

How do I convert PST to EST?

Add 3 hours. Pacific Time is always 3 hours behind Eastern Time, because both change their clocks on the same dates: 9 a.m. PST is 12 noon EST, and 9 a.m. PDT is 12 noon EDT.

How do I convert UTC to EST?

Subtract 5 hours for Eastern Standard Time (winter) or 4 hours for Eastern Daylight Time (summer, March 8 to November 1 in 2026). So 15:00 UTC is 10:00 a.m. EST or 11:00 a.m. EDT.

How do I find a good meeting time across time zones?

Add every participant’s city to the planner. Each row shows that city’s 24 hours lined up with the others; green cells are 9-to-5 work hours and columns with a lime outline are hours when everyone is at work. Click a column to pick it, then copy the share link.

Does the converter handle daylight saving time?

Yes. Times are calculated from the IANA time zone database for the exact date you choose, so a meeting planned for next month uses next month’s offsets. Pick a date in late October to see how Europe and the US change on different weekends.

Can I save my cities?

Yes. The cities you add are saved in your browser automatically and come back next time. Nothing is uploaded; clear them with “Reset cities”.
